I had another TVU scan today. The assistant accidentally did another anatomy scan, but it was nice to see baby boy for an extended time! Everything with him still looks great, and she even did a 3D scan which was neat!
My cervix on the other hand has shortened a little more to 2.0 cm…thats another loss of 0.3cm since last week. My doctor was not overly concerned, he said that I am still considered ‘stable’ because I haven’t dipped below 2cm. Also, apparently a total loss of 0.6cm over 4 weeks (started at 2.6cm at 20+1 and now 2cm at 24+4) is gradual, which is good. He does, however, predict that I will deliver early- sometime in the 30’s (weeks). Honestly at this point if I can make it to 34 weeks, I will be ecstatic. He told me to just keep doing what I’m doing…no standing for more than 30 min at a time, no long walks, no heavy lifting, and full pelvic rest.
He said IF I were to go below 1.5cm, it is unlikely he will hospitalize me simply because we live so close to the hospital. That is reassuring, but on the other hand it might be more reassuring to know I have doctors and nurses right there monitoring me. Though I’m of course hoping we never get to that point. I have started to pack that hospital bag now, my ‘extended stay’ bag, just in case I need it. Like I said last post, after 30 or so weeks I will transition that bag to a delivery hospital bag for myself, my partner and baby boy.
I am also feeling more optimistic about being over 24 weeks now. Only a few more days and I will be 25 weeks. Anecdotally my MFM doctor told me he delivered a baby that was 23+6 yesterday and it was doing quite well for being that early. I am super grateful to live as close as we do to the best NICU in the province.
I left the appointment feeling deflated and worried, but now that I’m home and I’ve done a bit of research myself, I feel better about things. It still sucks to be in this situation at all, but I am so determined to keep baby boy in for as long as possible- I feel like we can do it. Next appointment is next Thursday.
