Tomorrow I will be 35 weeks pregnant. This is a milestone I didn’t think I would reach. Honestly I don’t even think my doctors would think I would reach it either. I truly cannot believe I have made it this far.
This week I had an MFM appointment and an OB appointment on the same day. When I arrived for my MFM appointment, I went to the washroom beforehand as per usual…but before I flushed I noticed one pinkie finger sized clot in the toilet bowl. It was reddish brown and long not round. There were no other signs…nothing in the water, nothing on my panty liner, nothing on the toilet paper. We waited about 15 min before getting called in, so I once again went to the washroom before the ultrasound (this is my life now haha) and there were zero signs of anything amiss. I did bring it up to the ultrasound tech who then brought it up to my MFM. But before that, the ultrasound went great! It was another growth scan and baby boy was measuring at 5lbs 3oz, and in the 40th percentile. Placenta and amniotic fluid looked good as well. When my MFM doctor came in to go over everything with me she said at first she was hesitant to let me leave (because of the clot) and considered admitting me to hospital given my history. But she said because the scan was great and there were no other signs other then that one single clot (and because we live 10 minutes from the hospital) she felt comfortable letting me leave but said she was going to give my OB a call ahead of my appointment later that day and see what she thinks as well. She told me to have an incredibly small threshold for calling L&D for anything that seems amiss or wrong just in case.
My OB appointment went much the same, baby had a great heartbeat with the doppler, stomach was measuring on schedule. My OB thinks the clot was likely still residual from my bleed a few weeks ago. She said she is so happy but also surprised I have made it this far, but she still doesn’t expect me to make it to full term at 40 weeks. She said anything is possible of course, but she thinks there is a low chance that will happen and baby boy could come at any time. She said she isn’t at all worried if he does come soon because his scans have all been good, and after 34 weeks preterm babies tend to do just as well as full term (though may require a short NICU stay). She said if I am still pregnant at 38 weeks we will start talking about booking an induction date closer to my due date. She doesn’t want me to go past my due date due to the fact that this is an IVF pregnancy, I am over 35, and all of the things that have come up during this pregnancy to make this high risk. She also gave me the green light to once again start moving more…less modified bedrest and more normal day to day activities. It’s a relief to be back at that point, but honestly most days I feel too tired to do much anyway!
In any case I think we are as ready for baby boy’s arrival as we can be. I’ve meal prepped some freezer meals, re-packed the hospital bags (yes bags…one is all snacks haha) for the final time. I’ve trimmed down what I think we will need, though I’m sure I’ve still over packed haha. Everything at home is set up and ready for him. And now we wait.
I have weekly OB appointments now, and bi-weekly MFM ultrasounds. I’m also trying to get in as many naps as I can now haha
