Home. Stable. Still Pregnant!

The past week and a half has been a whirlwind. I am still pregnant (32+3 today!) and I am home! I was discharged last Thursday after being in hospital for a week. I was getting morning check ups and twice daily NSTs, thankfully there was no more bleeding and baby and I remained stable the entire time I was there. I had two appointments with my MFM- one was the day I arrived, and the second was the day I was discharged. Both went really well. Everyone was confident that I could go home if I wanted to, and honestly it was a tough choice for me. It was hard being in the hospital, away from my bed and my life…plus there were a few little things left to do before baby boy arrives that I had ideally wanted to get done. On the other hand, it was so reassuring to know I was being so well taken care of by the doctors and nurses in hospital, and if anything were to happen, they are all literally right there. My partner stayed over with me every single night. He would go home in the day and come back with homemade meals for me (most of the hospital meals were not great). But the fact that everyone was confident I would be ok at home, and the fact that we only live 10 minutes away, really helped me come to the conclusion that going home was the right thing to do. Tomorrow will be a week since my discharge from hospital. I’ve spent a lot of the last week sleeping…I’ve just been so incredibly exhausted. I am still on edge…I think I will be until we bring baby boy home. There is a chance that this bleeding can happen again, and I am still at risk for preterm labour because of my cervix. This is absolutely not how I thought my pregnancy would go. It seems like it is one thing after another and I am just waiting for the next scary thing to happen. I am also trying to be positive, and I am grateful for every single day I remain pregnant. To be honest, I’m also surprised at the end of each day knowing I’ve made it one more day.

Today I had two appointments: first with my OB in the morning. That went well, and was pretty standard. This afternoon I had another ultrasound with my MFM. Baby boy looks great, amniotic fluid levels are good (my current worry), and nothing seemed amiss with my placenta. I go back to see both doctors in two weeks. I’ve also been cleared once again to see a pelvic floor therapist (My OB ok’d it 2 weeks ago, before the bleeding event…but she re-cleared it today. My first appointment is next week). I thought it was a good idea before all of this to see one (tmi, but I have been leaking urine daily for about two months) but now think it is 100% necessary for me to see one- I think I mentioned it in my last post, but when I arrived at the hospital the doctor did a cervix check with a speculum and then manually after to see if I was dilated. Both of those tests were so insanely painful I was literally yelling in pain as they happened. I think my pelvic floor has a lot to do with why I was in so much pain (and why I’ve been leaking so much urine for so long)- I’d love to be able to strengthen things before labour. I know I’ll be getting a lot more cervical checks when labour comes around and I’m absolutely terrified of that and anything that involves a speculum. I’ve never had any issues with either before pregnancy, so I am hoping afterwards things return to that.

I’m back down to modified bedrest, not really going out and doing much again. As the weeks go on I will gradually increase my activity ever so slightly…but I definitely won’t travel far from home. It’s funny, the day I was discharged from hospital is the day my partner and I were supposed to get married. SO so glad we postponed things before all of this happened.

Hoping to make it another week!
